| Cluster projects awarded expansion funding | ||
Three years after the launch of the Advanced Engineering and Polymer
Cluster Centres, their teams are delighted that these projects have
now been awarded further funding from the European Regional Development
Fund. An overall package of over £8 million worth of funding will
enable the Cluster projects to continue to offer the business support
activities they have been providing so successfully to June 2008 and
roll out their experience... |

| Recently appointed as the new Advanced Engineering Cluster Champion,
Jit Gatcha is no stranger to the team or the project’s objectives.
Jit joins from the University of Wolverhampton’s Innovative Product
Development Centre, where, as Senior Marketing Associate, he focused
on helping Cluster companies’ business development activities.... | ||

| Fuelling the drive for environmental consciousness | ||
The enterprising winner of the Advanced Engineering Cluster Environmental Technology Award, Maxsys Ltd., has recently secured a seven figure venture capital investment to help expand its workforce to cope with demand after a record-breaking year for sales. Walsall-based Maxsys Ltd supplies its patented energy saving equipment
across a wide range of industries, including food and drink, chemicals,
paper, steel, minerals, textiles, cement, pharmaceuticals, glass,
printing, rubber, manufacturing and bricks, as well as process and
space heating for the public and private sectors.... | ||
| Linking business and higher education is not just hot air | ||
Enabling breakthrough technology is a key objective for the Telford-based Polymer Cluster. "Forging links between business and the higher education sector is key", says Polymer Cluster Champion Paul Hackney. Recently, Cluster funding has enabled Summit Systems Ltd., a leading manufacturer and supplier of drying equipment to the plastic processing industry, to take advantage of the research and development facilities at the University of Warwick. The beginning of April this year will see a Warwick MSc student, under
the guidance of the Polymer Cluster's delivery partner, Warwick Manufacturing
Group (WMG), engaged in the testing of a new drying technology currently
being developed at Summit Systems. The new concept is based on vacuum
drying, which is more efficient and economical compared to commonly
used hot air and dehumidifying dryers.... | ||

| The Advanced Engineering Cluster is delighted to report that Rojac Tooling Technologies of Wednesbury received the award of Toolmaker of the Year at the Metalworking Production Awards 2006, which took place on Tuesday 16th May at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. Specialising in the design and manufacture of mould tooling for a
wide range of applications, Rojac makes extensive use of web-based
project management using its own, in-house developed system, allowing
secure 24/7 customer access. Rojac's system includes online CAD viewers,
live web cams, timing plans, photos and documents..... |
